 Yota Omosowho

Degrees and Certifications:

Yota Omosowho

Yota is a senior at Oakland High School and serves as a 2018-19 All City Council Student Union’s Student Director for the OUSD Board of Education. She is most passionate about social justice and immigration issues, having immigrated to
Oakland herself two years ago.

Yota has already received awards from Oakland High for academic achievements including the African American Honor roll for her grade point average. She is a strong believer in the amplification of youth voices in the community and also believes that youth deserve to express their views on policies, especially in regards to their education since students are the ones who experience the problems policies are trying to address. Yota is trained in restorative justice practices and is currently a student representative on the culture and climate committee at her school.

In addition to serving on the All City City Council Student Union Governing Board, Yota is a commissioner on the Oakland Youth Advisory Commission, is a CORO 2017 Youth Fellow Alumni, and volunteers for Build On.

In her free time, Yota plays the guitar, loves to read and is committed to taking steps to find her voice one question at a time. She plans to go to a four year college and major in cultural anthropology.
