Physical School Environment
Students and staff have the right to a safe and secure campus where they are free from environmental and physical harm.
- Schools are required to have safety plans and site safety rules.
- With help from the city, county agencies, and other partners, schools are working to make sure that there are safe routes to schools for walking and biking.
- OUSD has policies and programs in place to help prevent asthma and other breathing problems and promote asthma-safe classrooms.
- The Green Gloves Program is working to reduce the “environmental footprint” of schools in Oakland. Green Gloves gets students involved in hands-on learning and real-world problem solving. It empowers students, helps safeguard their health, and saves resources and money for our schools and communities.
