The California Physical Fitness Test  is designed to monitor students physical fitness in grades 5, 7 and 9. It measures aerobic capacity, abdominal strength, upper body strength, trunk strength/ flexibility, and overall flexibility. These standards represent minimum levels of fitness known to be associated with those health and physical characteristics that offer protection against diseases resulting from physical inactivity.
California Education Code (Section 60800) requires school districts (LEAs) to administer the PFT to students in grades 5, 7 and 9.

    Student Score Reports
Individual student scores are sent home with your student or can be obtained at your child's school site.
Achievement of the fitness standards is based upon a score falling in the Healthy Fitness Zone (HFZ) for each fitness area. The goal is for students to achieve the HFZ for all areas of the physical fitness test.
