• Providing Support with Service

    Evelynne Cannon Wright is a parent volunteer at Garfield Elementary that embodies humility and kindness to the entire school community. For Ms. Evelynne, volunteering is a way to allow the school to run smoothly, by way of support to teachers and encouraging students. 

    Ms. Evelynne Ms. Evelynne has volunteered at various schools in the district for over 25 years, starting when her children first enrolled at Maxwell Park Elementary. Currently, Ms Evelynne volunteers in her son’s first grade classroom at Garfield twice per week.  Ms. Evelynne is also actively involved with family engagement groups at Garfield, including the African American Advisory Council, Parent Action Team, School Site Council, and ELAC.

    "I look forward to the difference I can make in the children's and teachers' lives. Being at the school, knowing I can make a difference and seeing the change when I’m there.” She is truly committed to the success of all students.

    When asked what makes her proud, Ms. Evelynne radiates the empathetic humility that she is known for. "As a volunteer, I'm most proud of the other volunteers. We're all making a difference with all the students because we don't just focus on our own children.”

    Each day she volunteers at Garfield Elementary, Ms. Evelynne strives to encourage Garfield students to always do their best, and to “let these kids know you love them.”
