• I was born in Oakland, California and raised in Richmond, California. I attended Richmond public schools and graduated from Richmond High School in 1981. I started as a coach when I was just out of high school and have been involved in youth development over the past 30+ years. After graduation from Cal State Hayward (now East Bay), I spent 10 years working in youth development at the Boys & Girls Club of West Oakland and the YMCA in San Francisco's Tenderloin district. I then returned to school to obtain my teaching credential at CSUH   I began teaching in 2001 and worked in the West Contra Costa Unified School District until 2017.  I taught both Physical Education and Leadership to both middle and high school. While there, I was a recipient of the West Contra Costa Ed Fund “Teacher of the Year Award” 2012 -2013. Since 2017, I have been teaching at Urban Promise Academy, where I have developed a Physical Education curriculum and currently serve as the Department Chair of Physical Education. In Fall 2019, I was asked to be a part of the District’s Physical Education Leadership Group, where I help plan and facilitate professional development for my fellow Physical Education teachers throughout Oakland Unified. I was a recipient for the second time as OUSD ``Teacher of the Year” 2019-2020.

I am now an OUSD Physical Education Specialist who provides support to develop a high quality, standards-based physical education curriculum for grades K-12.  Directly coaching high need P.E. teachers, focusing on new teachers and supporting P.E. mentors throughout the District. Collecting the data needed for compliance as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of the physical education program. Working with school sites, P.E. department chairs, and P.E. teachers to identify best practices and coordinate the sharing of those practices across the district.
