English Language Learners (ELLs) comprise close to one-third of Oakland Unified School District’s (OUSD) student population. The Office of English Language Learners and Multilingual Achievement (ELLMA) is committed to bringing all ELLs to academic success through our three core beliefs:
- All educators are responsible for the language development of ELLs
- English Language Learners can achieve at high-levels with the right supports
- The language and cultural resources that students bring are tremendous assets that they bring to their learning and that of the community
ELLMA empowers parents, teachers, and principals of ELLs, with the tools and resources to ensure ELLs make progress toward reclassification. Together, we can ensure our ELLs thrive as a part of the OUSD community and in our global, multilingual world.
