Transitional Kindergarten offers students a highly developmentally responsive first year in school and is part of the larger K-12 public education system.
TK is a high-quality learning environment with a curriculum that fosters curiosity, cooperation, independence, exploration, and a life-long love of learning aligned with the common core standards. It is a permanent part of the public education system in California.
As part of the curriculum, TK teachers in OUSD will be observing students carefully, documenting and collecting evidence of student learning over time (photos, work samples, videos, observation notes, etc.) as well as allow students to engage a lot of “purposeful play.”
Play is a CRITICAL, brain-based learning system that supports later academic success.
