    Dear Montera Students and Families,

We hope that this message finds you well during this difficult time. In a very short period of time, we all find ourselves in unprecedented circumstances and are being forced to find new ways of connection, communication and continued learning.  As we have moved forward the past two weeks, we have learned some very important things about continuing to teach from a distance:

    1. Our primary concern is the physical and mental health and safety of our school community. Any plans that we make as a staff will prioritize these areas above all others.

    1. This situation is dynamic and ever-evolving. We will continue to make decisions in accordance with health experts, the District and State policies.

    1. Grades should not be a point of stress or challenge during this difficult time. In accordance with State/District policy, students will not be graded or penalized for any work assigned after Friday, March 13th, 2020 (the last day of school at Montera). It was announced today that OUSD schools will remain closed until at least May 1st. If there are any changes in grading policies, families will be notified immediately.

    1. State testing cannot proceed under these circumstances, and as a result SBAC/CAST/CAA/ELPAC have all been cancelled for this school year.

    1. Montera teachers and staff want to maintain connection and lines of communication with our students and families despite the closure. We have been inviting clusters of students and their parents to join us in virtual meetings starting Monday this week. We hope to see you there!

    1. Student emails are now open for student use for this period - sign in with the same username (s_first.last@ousd.org) and password (00+six digit ID number) you use for a Chromebook.  If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

    1. We do not currently have any updates regarding Promotion, 8th Grade Activities or future planned Montera activities. Once we know details with more certainty, we will let families know.

We have never appreciated the strength of our community more than now. We are working together to make sure that our community remains safe and strong. We are Montera, We are One.

    In Community,

    Mr. Avent
