OUSD provides students with summer learning opportunities that combine academic intervention with engaging enrichment activities for a full day of expanded learning. Here you'll find resources and information on summer programs available in Oakland and the Greater Bay Area.

2023 Summer Learning Enrollment launches March 29th

Student enrollment begins March 28th. Families will receive invitations to enroll via mobile platforms. Families can contact their schools front office to inquire about eligibility.
High school students should work with their school counselor
Early Childhood Education Centers
Our centers provide year round preschool services for 3 -5 year olds (including summer) at 9 locations. We also provide Summer Enrichment for TK–5th graders at 10 locations throughout the city. Please contact the ECE office at 510-273-1590 for more information.Summer Bridge to K Program
In partnership with First Five of Alameda County and Oakland Fund for Children and Youth, OUSD offers a Summer Kinder/TK Bridge Program for children entering kinder/transitional-kindergarten in the fall. Seats are limited and priority will be given to children with no preschool experience. Contact Maria Sujo in the Early Learning Department at 510-879-5085 or visit our webpage.
DATES: June 5-July 7, 2023.Summer Learning Programming TK-8 Hub Model
OUSD offers academic intervention taught by certificated district teachers. Students are recommended by their school and will receive intervention focused on Math and English Language Arts. Certain locations will offer afternoon enrichment activities provided by lead community agencies. Contact your child’s school for more information.

Pre-Collegiate Academy
In partnership with the East Bay Consortium and Merritt College, OUSD offers the Pre-Collegiate Academy to 7th–12th grade students. PCA strengthens students’ mathematical and college and career readiness skills through summer enrichment courses and support services during the academic year. High School Credit Recovery
Credit Recovery is offered to upper class high school students in need of academic credit recovery in order to graduate on time. Contact your child’s high school counselor for more information.DATES: June 5th - July 7th
Site Based High School Summer Programs
There are several options for your high school student to stay engaged academically during the summer. Options include Bridge to 9th, and 9th/10th Academic Recovery. Please contact your child’s school counselor for more information.Special Education Programs
The Special Education Department provides extended school year services (ESY) in accordance with Federal law for eligible students who require it and have such services in their IEP. Students are assigned to schools and classrooms based on program type and proximity to neighborhood. Each eligible family who has applied will receive a placement notice from the Special Education Department. Contact the Special Education Department at 510-879-8382.Refugee/Asylee Programs
The OUSD Refugee/Asylee program provides summer academic and enrichment opportunities for newcomer Refugee students K–12 and makes referrals to community-based programs for additional support. Contact Nate Dunstan at 510-273-1661 or nathaniel.dunstan@ousd.org.OUSD partners with the nonprofit InPlay to provide a database of hundreds of summer programs available to students, including City of Oakland Parks and Recreation summer camps, activities at museums & libraries, and youth scholarship opportunities. Many are available at low or no cost!
