The Youth Center has a 9th grade tutoring program called FRESH and they currently have room for 6 more students. The program leader, Gemma Lira Araujo, manages about 30 students. Students are put into cohorts of 2-3 students in which they will have their own mentor to help guide them for a marking period. Ms. Araujo works with students and families to manage grades with grade checks and communication with both parents and teachers.
The goal is to make sure students are passing all their classes with C or higher. FRESH is an after school program that meets on Tuesday and Thursday in the library from 3:15 - 4:30 PM. Students in the program have an average GPA of 3.13 and a 91% passing rate.
There is an application process that is designed to make sure each student is really committed to getting good grades and coming to the program. For information contact Gemma Lira Araujo or have your student stop the with Youth Center - Portable O in the parking lot.
