On to Middle School

Claremont Middle School is the little engine that can — we keep plugging away even as district, state and federal funding for public education is stripped. A lot of very dedicated people are committed to Claremont's success.

Where other schools have had to let their library programs go, at Claremont Middle School  the library is a priority and we are actually trying to increase our PTA-supported librarian's hours. It is proven that children who read and who have access to books do better in school.

We have a PTA-supported state-of-the-art 3-D modeling and animation program at Claremont, truly a one-of-a-kind. This takes an incredible amount of volunteer work and monies, it is in its 5th year and we have stretched the program (called Project 7) to be offered at Oakland Technical High School. Hence the name - Project 7- three years at middle school + four years at high school - a student can graduate and be trained as a computer animator and be able to get a job at Pixar. Project 7 is in its 5th year.

We have an award-winning band and orchestra, offer art, free after-school programs and our girls and boys' basketball teams play to win!

The PTA firmly believes that to see and be outside of your neighborhood is critical for developing awareness and open-mindedness, and the PTA supports Outdoor Education; every June the 6th graders go to the Marin Headlands - Point Bonita - and stay in an old Army barracks for three days, the 7th graders get to spend 5 days in Yosemite in Curry Village, and the 8th graders fund raise like heck, and travel to Washington D.C. This year, we have the lofty dream of getting as many 8th graders that wish to go, and qualify grade-wise, to the inauguration in January.

Please come to a PTA meeting, they are the first Tuesday of the month. We serve a free dinner at 6:00 and the Meeting begins at 6:30. Our first meeting is Tuesday, August 4th. Can't make it to the PTA meeting? No worries!

The Final Friday Coffee is a great time to come and meet our new dynamo co-Principals; Reginald Richardson and Ronald Richardson. Meet in our new garden space from 8:00-9:00am for a cup of coffee or tea and meet the Claremont Community.

Thinking about Claremont? Consider attending our Future Families day on Sat. November 3rd. Sign up to attend one of our four school tours: Friday, Oct. 26th, Friday, November
9th, Friday, November 30th, or Friday, December 7th.
