AGE ELIGIBILITY: WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN?
With the passage of The Kindergarten Readiness Act (SB 1381), students must turn 5 years old by September 1 in order to be age eligible to enter Kindergarten. Transitional Kindergarten fills the gap created between the new Kindergarten cutoff date and the previous Kindergarten deadline (December 2).
What are the new Kindergarten entry dates?
After 2014-2015, students turning 5 on or before September 1 are age eligible to enroll in Kindergarten in California.
Who attends Transitional Kindergarten?
Students turning five (5) between September 2 and December 2 are given priority to enroll in Transitional Kindergarten. If your child is born before September 2 you may consider Transitional Kindergarten if you feel your child is not ready for traditional Kinder. Please note that you may only apply for either TK or Kindergarten.
