Greetings Westlake Families!
This is Mr. Ferrer, Principal of Westlake Middle School with your weekly update for the week of January 16th. If you miss any part of this message please visit our website.
Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday, January 16th in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday and that Friday, January 20th we are on a Short Day Schedule because of the end of the 3rd marking period and 1st semester.
This week we had Challenge Day for most of our 7th grade scholars. We hope our 7th graders learned the importance of compassion and connection that will help build new levels of respect and communication. A special thank you to those parents who volunteered with the event.
8th grade parents please understand our 8th grade promotion ceremony & activities requirements that start January 23rd- 2.5 GPA or higher, no D or F in English, no D or F in Math, no suspensions, and a 96% attendance rate. Please contact Ms. Ruffin to see where your scholar stands with these requirements.
Westlake is in the process of developing its School Design Team to help create the new Westlake. We are in need of 1 parent to serve on the team to help support our efforts. Design Team members will meet and communicate regularly starting this year and next. If you are interested, please contact Ms. Hall.
As you may have heard, OUSD is in the process of addressing the status of their district budget. This may impact the services being provided to school sites, so I encourage you to attend our monthly School Site Council meetings to help identify our fiscal priorities for next school year.
