Summer 2015 Update

A New Day in OACE

I am proud that the integrity and quality of the Oakland Adult & Career Education (OACE) program have been recently been validated.

·         OACE received WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) accreditation (May 2015) for six years. The self-study and action plan process were led by staff members, Elizabet Wendt and Roger Chretien.

·         OACE was inspected in a recent Federal Program Monitoring (FPM) review with no audit findings (June 2015).

·         The Oakland Family Literacy program was acknowledged as a case study of a promising effort in "The Case for a Two-General Approach for Educating English Language Learners", Center for American Progress (May 2015). Please see pages 18-20, 28-29 of the report.

We are grateful to the OACE staff, volunteers and partners for their dedication in providing adult learners in Oakland a program of quality and integrity.

We look forward to a new day in OACE, guided by our WASC Action Plan, OACE Strategic Plan and the AB86 Regional Consortium work.
